Build a Home, Make-A-Wish
The Make-A-Wish Foundation® was founded in 1980 to bring joy into the lives of children who are battling life-threatening illnesses. Since the organization’s very humble beginnings, almost 220,000 wishes have been fulfilled, with a new one granted every 38 minutes. That’s a lot of joy, but it also means there are too many, seriously ill children.
At Magnolia Homes, we’ve been involved with the Mid-South Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation for many years. In 2004, we decided to do something more to bring attention to the valuable mission and critical needs of this group. Karen and Reggie Garner, Jr., owners of Magnolia Homes, decided to use the company’s home building business to raise needed funds for Make-A-Wish in the Memphis area.
We brought together a dedicated group of home building professionals and every business, every person agreed to pitch in. Our subcontractors donated some labor and materials to build a house in Saunders Creek, a Magnolia Homes development in Rossville, Tennessee. When the home was sold, we contributed 5% of the selling price to Make-A-Wish. And the generosity wasn’t limited to the home builders. The attorney, lender, and real estate agents all contributed part of their proceeds to the cause.
To date, we have built and sold 2 homes to benefit The Make-A-Wish Foundation. Our total contribution to date is over $200,000, because we wholeheartedly support their efforts to make wishes come true for children who need them. And we will continue to build a Make-A-Wish home in every development so that the residents and out partners remember that helping others is really what a community is all about.
