2025 Paint Trends
The new year is slowly approaching, and with it brings a brand-new wave of interior design colors, trends, and styles that we cannot wait to share with you! Over time, interior paint colors have become SO much more than what lives on the structural portions of your home, emerging as a personal representation of the homeowner! This topic, along with our Design Trends Forecast that will roll out next month, has become one of our favorite subjects to write about because of the significant role interior home colors play in our everyday lives.
In 2025, that significance will be the shining star of the interior color palette world! Colors that evoke emotion are in – nostalgic hues that pull you into a loving memory, warm color tones that bring a calming presence, and rich or deep hues that will bring you back down to earth. The best part? All these colors are original, unique, and personalized to you and your space. We are thrilled to see these timeless tones used throughout the interior color palette in 2025 and for years to come. Here are the 2025 Paint Color Trends, as projected by Magnolia Homes!
Nostalgic hues
For 2025, color forecasters have observed that consumers are gravitating towards historical colors that evoke nostalgia and familiarity for use in their homes! You will see these colors provide a sophisticated spin on classic hues that continue in the trend of sparking emotion: nurturing, inspiring, timeless, and something you can feel. These historic tones provide an Antebellum essence with rich color palettes, such as delicious browns, wistful reds, and deep plums. Most of the color trend forecasts that we’ve seen thus far lean towards these antiquarian tones! Here’s a breakdown of the nostalgic colors we expect to emerge in the new year:
Delicious Browns: we’re using this term because of the tasty treats that these colors remind us of, such as chocolate, coffee, caramel, and toffee! Sherwin Williams chose “Grounded” as one of its Color Mix Forecast tones for 2025, which is described as a versatile, mid-tone brown. Additionally, Little Greene chose “Mochi” as its color of the year, described as a neoclassical design of contemporary & coordinated hues.
Wistful reds: the nostalgic tones of stunning rubies, attention-grabbing tomato, and deep raspberry will be seen throughout the interior design palette in 2025! Behr chose its 2025 color of the year as “Rumors” – a luxurious ruby red that adds warmth and rich allure. Sherwin Williams Color Mix also includes Rockwood Red, which is described as a deep crimson with a palette of dopamine-drenched hues that defy expectations.
Bejeweling Plums: if you were around for the Magnolia Homes 2024 color projections, you will remember that empowering purple began to rise on the scene! These vibrant hues of plum will only grow in popularity in 2025. Benjamin Moore chose the nuanced color “Cinnamon Slate” for this year, described as a delicate mix of heathered plum and velvety brown, bringing a smooth familiarity to any design. Glidden chose “Purple Basil”, provides rich warmth and energy, and represents the appreciation for self-discovery and self-expression that has led to the rise of maximalism across industries, including design, fashion and consumer goods.
We cannot wait to see how these nostalgic tones are incorporated throughout the interior design palettes in the upcoming years!
earth neutrals
2024 was the year of connecting the interior to the exterior with wall-spanning windows and sliding doors. 2025 will take it a step further by bringing calming tones of nature into interior paint! Think neutrals that remind you of sandy beaches (Sherwin Williams Sunbleached) and mountainous terrains (Sherwin Williams White Snow)! Then, don’t forget about those mossy greens and woodsy browns (Graham & Brown’s Elderton) that transport you to lush forests! Lastly, tones of terracotta (Dunn-Edwards Caramelized) that are reminiscent of riverbanks will bring balance to any home. We can’t agree more that adding warmth from nature is paramount in 2025!!
jewel tones
Unsuspectingly, nature also brought us opulent jewel tones such as emerald, sapphire, ruby, amethyst, and the like. We will see more exuberance from adventure-seekers looking to add drama with interior paint in 2025. Some may color-drench an entire office with a breathtaking blue such as Valspar’s Encore 8002-45G or ruby red Rumors from Behr. Others may add Minwax’s Violet to a small powder bath for a more subtle pop of fun color! Either way, one thing is for certain: Jewel tones are no longer reserved for the maximalist designer. Anyone can indulge in the bold hues of Mother Earth!
cosmic blues
Blue has and always will build a connection to nature in your home, making it a timeless addition to bedrooms, bathrooms, closets, home offices, dining rooms….. you get the point! Blues are here to stay in 2025!! In fact, you will see both deeper and “otherworldly” blues that boast beauty and intrigue such as Behr’s Cosmic Cobalt or brighter, midtone blues such as Mapped Blue from Dutch Boy Paints. Of course, blue’s best friend, green, has made an appearance in HGTV Home by Sherwin Williams paint color of the year with Quietude, described as a “mossy green paint color with soft blue undertones.” A perfect match if you ask us! Will you dare to add blue?!
moody earth
Bold hues may seem too dark and daunting for your home, however, combining earthy warmth with moodiness can create quite the cozy oasis! Sherwin Williams’ Color Capsule of 2025 showcases exactly that! Take “Grounded” or “Clove” for instance—these versatile browns add depth and dimension to any space while also feeling like a warm, welcoming hug. These moody colors offer the perfect elevated look to a calm, sophisticated sanctuary!
Warm and calming colors
In the coming year, both warm and calming colors will take a front seat! In an effort to cultivate cozy, restful spaces, incorporate warm and calming colors, like earthy yellows or muted blues and greens. While you’re at it, add a splash of warm metallics on the walls! This can be displayed through hardware or lighting fixtures to enhance the warmth and richness of your environment!
The use of these colors provides an escape from the busy digital world we are accustomed to, and allows for your mind to disconnect and unwind! While these colors are helping formulate a calming, inviting oasis, they also add visual interest to the rooms while maintaining a classic look. The added touch of warm metallics in your space will elevate your room, providing a sense of luxury and sophistication to the space!
We hope this brings about inspiration and excitement as we enter into the new year! We cannot wait to see these tones incorporated throughout your home. Stay tuned as we dive into 2025 Home Design Trends next month!
